Port Allen man charged with forgery

Posted: Updated:

KENTWOOD, LA (WAFB) - A Port Allen man has been arrested after allegedly altering a check from an elderly couple.

Macon Joseph Carroll, 28, was taken into custody after the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office received a complaint that Carroll and four other men were soliciting residences in the Kentwood area for work.

Carroll and the other men allegedly convinced an elderly couple to remove three small trees from their yard.  After the trees were removed, authorities say Carroll accepted a check from the couple.  According to reports, the men then altered the check to read $3,700 and tried to cash the check at a Kentwood bank.

Carroll has been charged with theft over $500 and forgery.

Additional arrests are pending.
