NEW ROADS, LA (WAFB) - Several church congregations in New Roads are breathing a sigh of relief. The man accused of burglarizing three churches in the area, is now behind bars.

Minister Leo Houston transports his church's goods to and from Morning Star Baptist every Sunday, in a big white van. The van is packed up with speakers and suitcases filled with equipment. Houston isn't taking any chances.

His church was broken into on September 15th. Detectives say the thieves also hit two neighboring churches.

"You got to transport this stuff in and out of God's house to keep people from robbing you," said Houston.

The alleged robber 29 year old Travis Terrance was arrested Friday, for stealing more than one thousand dollars worth of goods from local houses of worship. Houston says Terrance made a not so smart move, in the small town of new roads.

"He tried to sell the stuff right down the street from where he lives," said Houston.

Deputies were able to get back the church's speaker system and keyboard. Houston says he's happy the accused thief has been busted.

"The God that we serve he's not a lazy God," said Houston. "He's not a sleepy God. He sees what's going on. And you will be caught."

Detectives are still investigating the burglaries. They have reason to believe Terrance did not work alone.
