BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The East Baton Rouge Parish School Board announced six presumed cases of H1N1 at one Baton Rouge school and a total of 13 schools where students have contracted the flu.

District officials say they're not ready to call the cases of flu at all 13 schools swine flu just yet. The school district is not testing students for swine flu. They say that is something parents need to do themselves. There have been no school closures due to the situation. "Currently, the situation is under control and we don't have any massive outbreaks of H1N1, so we are very comfortable with the steps we've taken so far," said Dr. Herman Brister with the EBR district.

Sue Catchings works for Health Centers in schools, providing health services to the EBR system."There is seriousness to this, but this is not to panic," she said. "Everything that can be done is being done, so people need to hear that clearly." For now, school health officials are keeping a watchful eye to see if the reported flu cases develop into something more serious.

The affected schools are: Baton Rouge Center for Visual and Performing Arts, Baton Rouge Magnet High School, Buchanan Elementary School, Glasgow Middle School, Jefferson Terrace Elementary School, La Belle Aire Elementary School, McKinley High School, Melrose Elementary School, Northeast Elementary School, Northeast High School, Park Forest Middle School, Sherwood Magnet Middle School, and Wildwood Elementary.

Just this week, the Advanced Baton Rouge School District announced it had two schools with confirmed swine flu cases. There are two cases at Dalton Elementary School and one at Pointe Coupee Central High School.
