Oxycontin drug bust in Denham Springs

DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - Denham Springs Marshals were going to serve a misdemeanor warrant at a home on Arnold Road, Friday morning. Instead, they say, they ended up making a drug bust.

Marshal Jerry Denton says when they arrived, another man was also making his way to the front door, but ran back to his truck once he saw they were law officers. Denton tells 9News when the front door to the house opened, they saw four people inside, heating up and shooting Oxycontin. 32-year-old Gary "Scooter" Varnado and his wife, Domenica were arrested and booked into the Livingston Parish Jail. 44-year-old Eric Knutsen, of Baton Rouge and 26-year-old Christopher Berhrens were also arrested.

Marshals say they confiscated dozens of needles, ammunition, more Oxycontin pills and even the spoon used to heat the drug. All this, and they were only at the home to serve a warrant for Gary Varnado, for writing bad checks.

Officers say two children also lived at the home.  They were not there at the time.

The four face charges ranging from possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and distribution of Oxycontin.
