ALBANY, LA (WAFB) - Livingston Parish deputies are beefing up patrols in one area, after two deadly drive-by shootings just hours apart on Drake Road in Albany. An area deputies tell us used to be rough, but then quieted down.

Life on Drake Road in Albany seems to be back to normal, for some. But for friends of 27-year-old Greg Brumfield, there are several unanswered questions.

"Had to got shot right here and took off, cause that's where they found him at. Laying right there," says a cousin of Brumfield.

Around 11pm Thursday night, Livingston Parish deputies were called out to a shooting on Drake. The woman who lives in the corner house on the road says shortly after she said her prayers and read the Bible, she heard three gun shots. She says when she looked outside, she saw Brumfield lying in her yard.

Neighbors and family say her house is considered a safe haven. Ten years ago a man was shot blocks away, but came to her house for help - he died on her doorstep.

Detectives are now searching the area for any clues. Right now they have no suspects and no motives. They were able to find one shell casing at the scene. The first bit of evidence something happened there.

But this shooting isn't the first one deputies were called to. Around 4 p.m. a drive-by shooting, just a few feet away, killed another man. It's unclear if the two incidents are related. Both shootings happened on Drake, but two agencies are working the cases. That's because this street is the parish line. Livingston on one side, Tangipahoa on the other. The earlier shooting is being handled by deputies in Tangipahoa.

"Concentrated a lot of law enforcement efforts in area and it calmed down quite a bit. Obviously last night, we had a problem again," says Perry Rushing, with the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office. Rushing says years ago, the area was a hot spot for drug activity.

Both parishes say extra patrols will be out to deter more violence from happening. If you know anything that could help their investigations - call Crimestoppers at 344-STOP.
