Iberville Parish facility to create 500 new jobs

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal announced Friday afternoon that a $350 million chemical plant will built along the Mississippi River in Iberville Parish.

The project, to be located on River Road near White Castle, is expected to create up to 500 permanent jobs, with an average annual salary of $57,400.

The project would also create about 250 temporary construction jobs.

The company, SNF Floerger SAS, is based in France. The only facility it currrently operates in the United States is in Savannah, Georgia.

The company makes powder flocculants, which change the thickness of water and is used to help extract oil. The company also produces the same product at a facility in Savannah.

Construction will be five phases, with the first phase scheduled to begin in January 2010.
