Swimming achievements: In 2011, she was ranked 3rd in state for 400 m relay. Top 8 in the state in the 200 m relay. Also top 8 in the state in 100 m backstroke. Tennis achievements: Regional Tournament participation. Other extracurricular activities: 2009-2012 Worked as a summer camp crew leader to minister to youth. This past summer she went on a mission trip to Mandeville, Jamaica to build houses and work in the national infirmary.
Austin has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked 5 out of 196 students. 4-year member of the Demon Football team. 4-year member Beta Club. Student Council member. Received several academic honors in various content areas.
Laina has maintained an honor roll status throughout her school years. She has a 3.35 GPA and is ranked #2 out of 33 students. Laina is a captain on both the volleyball and cheerleading teams. She was selected first team all-district in volleyball. Laina participates in Beta Club and Icare.
Haylee has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked 39th out of 155 students. Haylee’s extracurricular activities include: 2 Years FFA (Future Farmers of America); 2 Years of Student Council (1Year Vice President & 1 Year President); 4 Years Basketball; 4 Years Volleyball; 4 Years Softball with District Honors; 2 Years SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) (1 Year Vice President & 1 Year President in which she led her club to raise awareness about suicide prevention, Red Ribbon Week/drug facts, bullying, “Love Shouldn’t Hurt”, “Kick Butts” (anti-cigarettes), distracted driving, teen pregnancy); 4 Years Marching Band; 4 Years Concert Band (First Chair Clarinet); 2 Years Parade Band; Superior Rating in Solo & Ensemble for Clarinet 2012.
Samantha is ranked number one in her class and maintains a 4.0 G.P.A. while being enrolled in an Honors College Prep curriculum. She is active in her community and volunteers with Girls Scouts. She participates in three varsity sports; softball, track and volleyball. In 2011, Samantha earned All-Around most valuable athlete in Track and Field.
Drew is in the top five of his graduating class. He is a student council representative as Student Body President and Class President. He is also team captain of the football team. Drew earned All-District honorable mentions in football in 2010 and 2011.
Randa ranks in the top 10 in a graduating class of more than 400 students. She has maintained a 4.0 G.P.A. or higher throughout high school. Away from the classroom, Randa participated and lettered in track, cross country and soccer. She also is a Gator to Gator mentor and is active in Graceworks Youth Group.
Wade is a multi-sport star with 3 years in football and 2 years in track. Wade received All-District honors in track. Wade doesn’t stray far from the field he also participated in the school band the past 3 years. He maintains a high G.P.A. and well-respected by his peers and teachers.
Ashley is ranked top in her class of more than 470 students. She participates in soccer and cross-country. Ashley is the National Honor Society President and a member of the Beta Club.
Brendon maintains a 4.34 GPA and is ranked 4th out of 145 students. Brendon’s extracurricular activities include: Boys State Participant; Science Department Award Winner in Academic Showcase; National Honor Society President; Co-Founder of the Edward Douglas White Beautification Club; Member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Student Ambassadors. In 2012, Brendon was a state semi-finalist for both the baseball and soccer teams. He was also 1st Team All-District in soccer (2 years).
Kayla has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked 1st out of 50 students. Kayla is a member of The National Society of High School Scholars; she placed 1st in Advanced Mathematics/Pre-Calculus at the District Literary Rally; Made the Principal’s List; Earned Academic Letterman; Junior Class Prom Treasurer; St. Mary’s Youth Group; Participant in “AHEC of a Summer” at Pointe Coupee General Hospital. In 2012, she was the Varsity Goalkeeper; named MVP; Earned Soccer Letterman; 1st Team All-District Goalkeeper; 2nd Team All-Metro Goalkeeper. In 2012, she was an All-District Outfielder; Class 1-A State Runner-up; Earned Softball Letterman. She also volunteers to multiple school clubs and organizations in her community.
Grayson has a 3.66 GPA and is ranked 13th out of 61 students. Grayson is currently 1 of 8 students with a leadership position as a Chapel Prefect. He also sponsors and leads a student Bible study on campus during lunch. Football achievements: In 2011, he was ranked 2nd team all district receiver and in 2012 he was named team captain. Track achievements: Grayson is the current District and Regional Champion in 4x200 m relay; District Champion and District Runner-Up in 4x400 m relay; 2nd in state in 4x200 m relay; 5th in state in 4x400 m relay; 6th in state in 4x100 m relay. This past summer he attended a mission trip to Honduras as a Spanish translator and worked with children.
Donikia has a 3.6 GPA and is ranked 10th out of 178 students. Off the court: Donikia is a member of the National Honor Society; Senior class Vice-President; a member of the Youth and Government Club; member of the BETA Club; 1st place Shaquille O’Neal Essay Writing Contest; 1st place Moot Court Winner. On the basketball court: Donikia is 1st Team All-District; All Tournament; Defensive MVP; 1st Team All-Metro. Donikia is also a 3 year Letterman.
Trey has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked 1st out of 319 students. Trey is a member of the National Honor Society; a member of Bronco Scholars (4.0 for 3 years); Made the Principal’s List; member of the BETA Club. Trey also received nominations for: Lead America, National Youth Leadership Forum and All-State Academics LHSAA. He is currently the Senior captain of the football team; lettered 2 years; 4 year member. He is also a 4 year member of the baseball team; lettered 2 years; noted as a “good team leader”. Trey is also involved in the community where does many things including: reading to elementary school students, helping the elderly, keeping the neighborhood clean, participating in various activities at St. John’s Catholic Church.
Blakeli has a 3.9 GPA and is in the top 7% of her class of 134 students. Blakeli is a part of the Principal’s Honor Roll; was ranked Top 12 in her Junior Class; a member of the BETA Club; a member of the National Honor Society; a member of FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). Outside of the classroom, Blakeli is a cheerleader (1 year) and is the pitcher on the softball team (4 years).
Taylor has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked 1st out of 111 students. Taylor is the class Valedictorian. . In 2012, he was the 1st place medal winner for Honors American History and Honors Chemistry. In 2011, he was the 1st place medal winner for Honor Biology, Honors Algebra II and Honors Civics. Taylor is a member of the Key Club; Math and Science Club; an A-Team Mentor (program mentoring incoming freshmen); an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. As a member of the baseball team (4 years) he is currently 2nd Team All-District and was 1st Team All-District his junior year. As a member of the football team he was All-District Honorable Mention his junior year.
Morgan has a 4.35 GPA. Morgan is a member of the National Honor Society; BETA Club; Student Ambassador; Respect Life Club; Senior Student Minister; Liturgy Committee. Morgan also volunteers more than 50 hours each school year to a variety of organizations in her community. As a member of the volleyball team: Morgan was selected to the Louisiana All-Star Team; EHS All-Tournament Team, Co-MVP; In 2011, she was a Division I 5A State Semi-finalist; All-Metro Team; All-District MVP; MVP of the 2011 SJA team. As a member of the softball team: Morgan made the 5A State Semi-Finals; All-State Team; All-Metro Team; All-District Team; Best Offensive Player and Co-Best Defensive Player SJA Softball Team.
Caroline has a 4.0 GPA and is ranked 1st out of 36 students. Caroline is a member of the Key Club (2 years); currently Student Council President and has been an active member for 4 years; SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Club (5 years). Caroline also volunteers in the civic community. She is a part of the cheerleading squad (1 year); the volleyball team (5 years); the basketball team (5 years); softball team (5 years). Caroline is a 3 sport letterman.
Christopher has a 4.57 GPA and is ranked 1st out of 189 students. Christopher has received Principal’s Honors for having a 4.0 GPA for 3 consecutive years. He was also chosen to compete in the District Literary Rally for Physical Science, Biology and Chemistry. Christopher is a member of the Leadership Team (2 years); All-District Honors (junior year); BETA Club; National Honor Society. He has participated in Habitat for Humanity 3 times; completed 20 hours of service at Sunrise Nursing Home; participated in Angola Prison service project. This coming summer he will attend a Mission trip to Nicaragua. Christopher is a member of the football team (4 years); basketball team (2 years); soccer team (2 years).
Jessica has a 4.15 GPA. Jessica is President of Mu Alpha Theta; National Honor Society Leadership Council; BETA Club; Peer Mediated Instruction and Intervention Club Leadership Council; Peer Leader Steering Committee; National society of High School Scholars; Advisory Council; Representative of the Baton Rouge Youth Coalition. She is also a member of the Homecoming Court. In 2012, she was Junior Class Vice-President. Jessica has received numerous awards for her academic achievements in subjects ranging from Mathematics to Spanish. Jessica is a member of both the track and cross country teams and is a two time state champion.
Jonathan has a 4.4 GPA and is ranked 2nd out of 277 students. Jonathan is the President of the Student Government Association and is a Freshman Academy Mentor. In 2012, he was the Sergeant-at-Arms for the Student Government Association. As a member of the football team (4 years), Jonathan is has All-District Honors and is Preseason All-State. As a member of the soccer team (4 years), he was an All-District freshman; All-District, Offensive MVP and All-Metro sophomore; All-District and All-Metro junior. Jonathan is also a member of the golf team (2 years).
WAFB’s Sports Scholars program recognizes the area's top student athletes. These student athletes demonstrate exemplary performance both in the classroom and in extracurricular activities including sports.
In this highly competitive program, eligible seniors from high schools around the greater Baton Rouge area were nominated by their principal or faculty. The Sports Scholars program reviewed all applications and narrowed down the qualified applicants to 22 of the most outstanding student-athletes. Candidates will are selected on their academic standing with an emphasis on leadership in athletics and extracurricular achievements.
