BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality recently conducted an air toxic study focused on schools in the state.
Istrouma High School and Wyandotte Early Learning Center in Baton Rouge were among the schools included in the study.
DEQ says the findings show the exposure to air toxins at the schools are low and well within healthy limits by the use of scientifically accepted sampling and analysis methods.
DEQ says it has not seen any signs of toxic hot spots near any of Louisiana's schools.
The study was in response to a USA Today report on the health risks of refineries or chemical plants near classrooms across the country.
The paper said its eight-month study indicated those emissions can threaten students of every age.
The report showed about a dozen Baton Rouge schools, one of them being Istrouma High, were among the worst schools in the country for emission levels.
