BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - During a briefing Thursday afternoon, Entergy says the outage caused by Hurricane Gustav is the worst ever experienced in Baton Rouge or in Entergy history.
The company says 1600 lineman are working to get electricity turned back on, when it normally only has 100. There are 500 bucket trucks on the roads, when there are normally only 50. Also, 700 tree trimming trucks are part of the effort, when the normal number is 50.
Entergy says its best estimates for power restoration in the Baton Rouge area is 21 days, which is three weeks from September 4th. This includes East Baton Rouge, Ascension, and Livingston parishes. This number focuses on the 90% of customers that can take service. If a customer has damage from the street to their homes, Entergy is not going to hook it up. You need to get an electrician. Some areas were hit harder than others, with Broadmoor receiving the worst damage.
