Dear Over the Air Viewer,
In order to be ready for the DTV switch you need to know that WAFB-DT will make the change at 7:00am on Friday, June 12th, 2009.
If you get our DTV signal now you are receiving it from a transmitter located at 844 Government St in Baton Rouge and transmitting on RF channel 46. In DTV the TV receiver displays a virtual channel and your TV displays channel 9-1 when a signal is received.
On the morning of June 13th, 2009 we will begin broadcasting from a location on River Road to the southwest of Baton Rouge and we will change to RF channel 9. You will need to rescan for channels, you may need to change the direction your antenna points and when our signal is received the TV will again display channel 9-1.
Reception can change from day to day and from season to season. The effect of leaves on trees, thunderstorms, ghosting, and environmental changes affect DTV reception. WAFB-DT broadcasts in digital 24 hours a day every day. We do not vary our power or any other part of the operation that would affect the viewer's reception.
To reduce the environmental effects on reception a good outdoor antenna is needed. The antenna must be pointed in the direction of the TV channel transmitter you are trying to receive. Currently that means that your antenna may need to be rotated to get different channels in the local area. After the switch to our new location WAFB-DT will be closely located with all of the other local DTV channel transmitters and for most receivers rotating the antenna will no longer be required.
The antenna you choose now could affect what you get after the switch. Currently only WBRZ-DT broadcasts in the VHF band and all other stations broadcast in the UHF band. After the switch WAFB-DT will join WBRZ-DT using the VHF band.
For best reception now of WAFB-DT a good directional UHF antenna is required in some locations. After the switch that same antenna will not work well to get our new VHF channel 9 and an all band antenna will work better.
We hope this information is helpful and thank you for watching WAFB-DT.
