COYELL, LA (WAFB) - An arrest warrant issued in the case of 23-year-old Couty Alexander alleges he killed his pregnant wife and then left for work.

The victim, 24-year-old Christa Baker Alexander, was four months pregnant. Investigators say the killing happened Saturday afternoon. Police were called to the home early Sunday morning.

Couty Alexander initially told detectives he returned home to find his wife dead, investigators said. Detectives say Alexander later confessed to killing his wife "while she was attempting to gather clothing from a closet in a spare bedroom at the family residence."

Detectives say they have Couty Alexander's confession on tape. "Couty Lamar Alexander shot his wife in the head with a 9mm handgun at the family residence located at 18059 Watts Road, Livingston, La., in Livingston Parish, then left her there and went to work," the arrest warrant states.

Couty Alexander was employed by Acadian Ambulance at the time of the killing.  A spokesman for Acadian Ambulance said Tuesday that Alexander is no longer employed there.

He is charged with second-degree murder in the death of his wife, as well as first-degree feticide for the death of her unborn child. He is also charged with obstruction of justice for allegedly staging a crime scene at the home to make it appear as though there had been a burglary there.
