COYELL, LA (WAFB) - Livingston Parish sheriff's deputies said Sunday evening they have arrested the husband of a 24-year-old pregnant woman found dead inside her Livingston Parish home.

Christa Ann Alexander, who neighbors say was pregnant, was found dead inside her home on Watts Rd. in Coyell early Sunday morning. Detectives say it appears she was shot to death. Initially, police said the victim's husband told them he found his wife's body just before 6:00 a.m. Sunday, when he came home from his job at Acadian Ambulance. Neighbors of the quiet area say the couple's Watts Road home also appears to have been ransacked.

Detectives arrested 23-year-old Couty Alexander Sunday evening and charged him with one count of second-degree murder. "Couty Alexander told LPSO Detectives that he fired a .9mm handgun, belonging to him, striking the his wife in the back of the head while she was attempting to gather some clothing from her closet," a sheriff's spokesman said in a press release.

"LPSO Detectives were able to recover the 9mm handgun that was used in the homicide," the release said. Couty Alexander is being held at the Livingston Parish Jail Complex without bond.  More charges could be forthcoming, investigators said.
