U.S. Senator David VitterWe knew he would eventually talk, but the real shocker are the statements made by the wife of Senator David Vitter. Both have been in hiding since he admitted last week to ties to a Washington, D.C. prostitution ring. Vitter's five minute statement concluded with his wife pleading with the armies of reporters to get away from her home and even her church. WAFB's Jim Shannon has details.
Vitter acknowledges his indiscretion, says he is at peace with God and his wife and moved on, talking about his plans for the future. He also denied what he says are vicious rumors from his enemies. Senator David Vitter, flanked only by his wife, faced the music about his use of a Washington escort service. He talked about accepting responsibility. Vitter also denies former New Orleans madam Jeanette Maier's claim that he was a customer there.
Vitter did not answer any questions as he moved on to his legislative agenda for the next few months. Then, his wife, Wendy, struggling to maintain her emotions, spoke as a wife and then as a mother. Politically speaking, observers believe Vitter will be able to survive this scandal. Vitter says he will not talk further about what he calls a private issue between him and his wife. Reporters likely won't allow the issue to rest, and you can be sure he will be questioned about it. How he reacts to questions will be interesting.
