Louisiana House Passes Cockfighting Ban

The Louisiana House of Representatives has just voted 102-to-1 to outlaw cockfighting in Louisiana.   Representative Elbert Lee Guillory, a Democrat from Opelousas voted against the proposal.

The measure now goes to the state Senate for debate.   If approved by the Senate and Governor Blanco, the ban would take effect in 18 months.   Louisiana is the only state where cockfighting remains legal.

    Surveillance cameras captured someone opening fire at a gas station in Jasper. Police are looking for one of the people they said opened fire on Friday night, while the other is still in a hospital.
