EBR Deputy Attacked by Pair of Pit Bulls

An East Baton Rouge Sheriff's deputy was reportedly attacked by a pair of pit bulls while responding to a domestic dispute at a trailer park in Bonnydell Subdivision.   That subdivision is near the corner of Rome Drive and Leeanne Drive.

"When the deputies arrived in the area to interview two females about the fight, a pit bull dog came from around the trailer and attacked one of our deputies in the gravel driveway and bit him on his calf," said sheriff's department spokesman Fred Raiford.  "The deputy tried to get the dog off of him and, as the dog released his bite, the dog attacked him again and the deputy's partner who was at the scene shot and killed the dog," Raiford said.   As the injured deputy was getting off the ground, a second pit bull started to attack both deputies and the uninjured deputy shot the second dog, investigators said.   The second dog survived and was brought to a veterinarian hospital.

Raiford said the deputy who was bitten was being checked out by medical personnel for possible rabies.
