No Title Sponsor for Indy Bowl

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - For the first time since 1990, the Independence Bowl won't have a title sponsor. It will also be the only bowl this season without a title sponsor. Some, like the Motor City Bowl and the Rose Bowl, don't have title sponsors but do have presenting sponsors.

Independence Bowl Executive Director Glen Krupica says the bowl has shifted its search to find a sponsor for the 2005 game. The bowl hired a Denver-based marketing firm, Tigris Sponsorship and Marketing, to help secure a sponsor. MainStay, a mutual funds management company, was the title sponsor for the last three games.

The company announced in August 2003 that it would not pick up the option year of its contract and sponsor the 2004 game. The bowl does have enough funding for this year's game, which matches the Number Five team from the Big 12 against the Number Six team from the SEC.

Texas Tech, Texas A and M, Nebraska and Oklahoma State are possible I-bowl targets from the Big 12. Alabama and South Carolina are possibilities from the SEC.
