BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
Things got heated between the attorneys inside a 19th Judicial District courtroom Monday during the second-degree murder trial of a man accused of killing his wife, a Baton Rouge lawyer.
Greg Harris is suspected of stabbing his wife, Chiquita Tate, to death back in 2009.
The case pits high-profile defense attorney Lewis Unglesby against prosecutor Prem Burns and both appear to be coming out swinging.
"It's bogged down to the extent that he could be moving it quicker," said Burns.
Burns complained Unglesby is stalling in the courtroom. She added his courtroom demeanor is also insulting.
"I almost objected to the snideness of one of the comments," Burns said. "I think the jury is getting tired of his buffaloing around the courtroom like everybody else is stupid or whatever. I think they're picking up on those vibes and it's very insulting to everyone else."
"The prosecutor is afraid of the evidence," said Co-counsel Lance Unglesby.
He is not as abrupt as his seasoned father. However, he is passionate about the case.
Lance Unglesby said Monday's testimony from the woman who found Chiquita Tate's wallet near Gardere is a positive for the defense's case.
"The prosecutor told the jury in the opening statement that the wallet was found on Mariner and Gardere. There is no Mariner and Gardere," he explained.
However, Burns said she's building her case to prove Harris is indeed the murderer.
"All of these witnesses that we put on today to show the time frame, the wallet, well, all of that could have been put on the other day. He just doesn't want to get this case moving," Burns added.
"Any evidence that's available, anything that's out there, we're not scared of. We would love…bring everything you have. Bring every video you have. Test every piece of item. We want it tested. We want it available," Unglesby said.
