BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A missing person investigation has led officials to the two Louisiana escaped inmates that were located in Tennessee.

David Cupps, 43, of Ohio has been missing for two days. He flew to Vicksburg, MS for a business trip on Monday. That evening, he called his wife to check in. That was the last time anyone heard from him.

"It's been 48 hours, and emotions are running very high," said Donna McCracken, Cupps' aunt.

The search for Cupps led officials to Ricky Wedgeworth, 36, and Darian Pierce, 33, who escaped the Louisiana State Police Headquarters Friday afternoon.

"Yesterday evening, we got a break where we believe we have a spotting of the trustees," said Lt. Doug Cain with the Louisiana State Police.

Cupps never checked into his hotel, returned his rental car or boarded his return flight to central Ohio. However, his rental car was spotted Tuesday night near Jackson, TN, which is more than five hours away from Vicksburg. When a trooper pulled over the car to check on Cupps, he found two other men inside.

"As he pressed them for who they are and what personal information they had, they jumped back in the car and took off," said Cain.

Since then, numerous agencies have been on the ground and in the air looking for the two men. Surveillance pictures placed the men at a truck stop in Jackson, TN just minutes before the trooper pulled them over.

As the search continues from Vicksburg to Jackson, the Cupps family members are keeping their faith.

"They're our only link to him. They're the only ones who know where he is or if he's alright. We just need for them to be captured," McCracken added.

Louisiana troopers are in Vicksburg and Jackson helping with the multi-agency manhunt.
