BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The family of the 23-year-old man who was shot while helping save a pregnant woman from an armed robber said he went through another surgery Thursday morning.

A posting was made to the Caring Bridge website for Charlie Cangelosi regarding the procedure.

"He's as good as I can ask for," the doctor said, according to a family member. "Those are encouraging words coming from the medical profession. His pancreas is still misbehaving so continue to pray... Today they will slowly turn the ventilator off and remove the tube from his throat."

Family members added LSU head coach Les Miles visited Cangelosi on Wednesday and gave him a standing invitation to all home football games.

Cangelosi was shot in the chest when he stepped in to save the 20-year-old mother-to-be who was being robbed.

He has been in critical condition since Sunday's shooting.
