ABOUT OLOL's CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL

This facility is the second-largest pediatric facility in Louisiana. Located inside Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, this 95-bed "hospital within a hospital" was designated as a children's hospital in 2004. Here are some facts about OLOL's Children's Hospital:

• It has the most local pediatric patient beds and the largest local pediatric intensive care unit, with 14 beds.
• It operates the region's only 24/7 pediatric emergency department.
• It treats children statewide and beyond, touching the lives of nearly 70,000 Louisiana children in 2009.
• It has eight Child Life Specialists trained to help children understand their diagnosis, prepare them for procedures and talk to them in terms they can understand. It is the only hospital in the area with Child Life Specialists.
• It is the Children's Miracle Network Hospital for Greater Baton Rouge, affiliated with over 160 CMN hospitals worldwide.
• It is  one of only five affiliated St. Jude Children's Research Hospital satellite treatment clinics in the nation. It's partnership with St. Jude allows them to treat Louisiana children with cancer closer to home and family.
