BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Medical experts will examine a man accused of killing his own grandfather to determine whether or not he is mentally fit to stand trial for murder per a judge's ruling Wednesday morning.
Judge Mike Erwin granted a sanity hearing to Dustin Musso. He has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
"Obviously, there's been plenty of trouble in this young man's past," says Nelvil Hollingsworth, Musso's defense attorney. "I thought it was best to just go ahead and get some medical doctors in there and get a report and find out if he's capable enough to assist me in his defense."
Musso allegedly burned his grandfather to death and stole the elderly man's truck last May. He was eventually arrested in Alabama and sent back to Louisiana to stand trial.
