DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - Authorities say a 17-year-old was arrested for allegedly breaking into a business early Tuesday morning. They report cigarettes, money, hot sauce and caller ID served as overwhelming evidence that pointed to him as the perpetrator.
According to Livingston Parish sheriff's deputies, Bryan Brettillo of Holden was taken into custody around 2 a.m. after being stopped for a second time walking along US 190 (Florida Boulevard) near Juban Road in Denham Springs.
When they searched him, they found 13 packs of cigarettes, $1 bills with names and notes written on them and a small pipe with marijuana residue inside. The cigarettes were different brands. They said they also noticed what looked like hot sauce on his shoes. After taking him into custody, they started searching nearby businesses.
Deputies found Laguna Beach Volley Ball on Florida Boulevard had been burglarized. According to deputies, it was obvious cigarettes and cash had been taken from inside. They claimed the clincher in the investigation was the spilled bottle of hot sauce used to break the glass of the drink cooler. Deputies added caller ID showed Brettillo used the phone inside the business to call home during the burglary.
He was charged with one count of simple burglary and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center. His bond was set at $15,500.
Deputies said the first stopped him around midnight and he told them he was on his way to Baton Rouge. A little while later they saw him again but walking the other way and told them he was headed to Holden.
