Bill ChaucerPONCHATOULA, LA (WAFB) - An attorney, who also happens to be a victim of an alleged Ponzi scheme that took over $11 million from over 200 investors, says the suspect hosted the most elaborate parties he's ever been to, topping those thrown by the first family.
"Let me just put it to you this way, I've been to lots of parties in my life, even a party at the White House, or two occasionally. I've never seen parties like this," said Sam Dileo. "Very expensive champagne, very expensive liquor, everything monogrammed. Gifts when you went in, gifts when you went out."
The parties are believed to have been paid for with the money he and others thought they were investing. Dileo is not only a victim of the alleged scheme, he also represents other victims.
Hammond businessman Bill Chaucer is accused of using investors' money to finance his cushy lifestyle.
Investigators say he bought his wife fancy jewelry, got her some plastic surgery and paid for a few Mardi Gras krewe memberships.
The 80 felony counts against Chaucer could add up to more than 500 years in prison.
