Bucks for breast implants found online

Posted: Updated:

CINCINNATI, OH (WXIX) - Every year, thousands of women look to go under the knife to get breast implants, but the surgery isn't cheap.

Some ladies are finding "bosom buddies," who are willing to cover all of the costs for their implants, online.

After having three children, Cincinnati native Becky Weschler is looking for a boost.

"It was always in the back of my head, but not enough to really do it," said Weschler.  "Then after having the three kids, I definitely needed to."

The married 23-year-old says she's heading under the knife next month to get breast implants, a dream with a $6,700 price tag.  But it won't cost her one dime.

Dozens of strangers are footing the bill.

"I'll show you my final donation. It was $810 and $332 to put me at my goal," added Weschler. "Yeah, Facebook for boobies."

Hamilton mother Kyle Dinger hopes to reach her goal next spring, all by signing up on myfreeimplants.com, posting pictures and chatting with "benefactors."

The men first donate $1.20 to email her and then donate as much as they like for her surgery.

"There's young women with families, some are married, some are in school, some are models looking to advance their career," says Jay Moore, founder of the web site.

Moore says it's a simple business model, built on friendship, that in the last four years has made him and his friends millions.

"You're actually getting to know the person. I mean it's similar to a lot of the social networks and online communities where you're meeting friends online," adds Moore.

Some critics disagree.  In a statement, Citizens for Community Values wrote, "MyFreeImplants.com is a disservice to women and our society and contributes to the objectification of women.  It dehumanizes them and sends the wrong message that their value is summed up solely in their appearance and attractiveness to men rather than stressing the unique personhood of every woman."

Ninety percent of the money donated goes directly to the women's doctor of choice, ten percent goes to the site's creators.

As for the "benefactors," both ladies say they plan to keep in touch.  Something their husbands say doesn't bother them.

"I'd probably keep in contact with some of them.  And Tim that's cool?" asks Dinger

"Yeah, that's fine with me. Just as long as I know they're not in the Butler Co. Area or Hamilton County," says Tim, her husband.

Moore says the site has helped 500 women get free implants.  The average donation is $30, though Moore says one man donated the full cost of a surgery.
