GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - A veterinarian says a horse is expected to make a full recovery from the wounds it sustained when dogs attacked it over the weekend. The horse suffered injuries to all four legs, stifle and neck.
Gonzales police said Keron Landry left a prized stallion named Prince tied to a stake next to a cage with three pit bulls inside. Detectives said somehow, the pit bulls got out and attacked the defenseless horse. When the veterinarian arrived on the scene, the horse was still in shock. Prince had injuries to all four of his legs, stifle, and a laceration on his neck. The veterinarian told police Prince was treated on the scene and it appears he will make a full recovery.
Landry owns the dogs that attacked Prince. He was put in charge of caring for the horse, which initially belonged to his uncle, when the uncle passed away. According to Detective Steve Nethken, when officers showed up, the dogs were locked in their cages and Landry was no where to be found. Police are now looking for him. He possibly broke city and/or state laws.
"We're going to explore both of these laws," Nethken said. "But, we have to talk with him first about what occurred and get his side of the story."
