BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A man has been arrested for allegedly firing an assault rifle at a car full of people on a Baton Rouge roadway.

Baton Rouge police say one minute after midnight officers on their routine patrol saw the man shooting an AK-47 at a car with four people inside on Plank Road.

The officers say when the man saw them, he ran away. They say they were able to surround him after he crawled under a house.

Police and East Baton Rouge sheriff's deputies set up a perimeter around the house but the suspect would not come out.

Baton Rouge Police SRT was called in to talk him out. The suspect eventually came out and was arrested.

Marvin Payne is charged with four counts of attempted first degree murder, illegal use of a weapon, two counts of aggravated criminal damage to property, and resisting an officer.

Police say no one was injured in the shooting.

The case is still under investigation.
