No. 7 LSU softball shuts out No. 23 Kentucky in Game 2 to tie series

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - No. 7 LSU tied its weekend series against No. 23 Kentucky with a shutout win Saturday in the second game at Tiger Park in Baton Rouge.

The Tigers (35-9, 12-5 SEC) blanked the Wildcats (26-16, 9-8 SEC), 5-0.

Shelbi Sunseri was 2-for-3 at the plate, including a double and an RBI.

Shelby Wickersham started in the circle for LSU and pitched the whole game. She only allowed four hits. She struck out two batters and walked two others. She improved to 10-1 on the season.

The Tigers jumped out in front early. In the bottom of the first inning, Sunseri’s double to right field sent Aliyah Andrews home. With the bases loaded and two outs, Michaela Schlattman walked and Sunseri crossed the plate to put LSU up 2-0.

In the bottom of the second, a sac fly by Amanda Sanchez scored Savannah Stewart to make it 3-0.

The Tigers scored their final two runs in the fourth inning. A sac fly by Shemiah Sanchez sent Karrington Houshmandzadeh home. Then, Amanda Doyle hit a single up the middle to score Claire Weinberger.

The rubber match is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.
