No. 7 LSU softball falls to No. 19 Oregon; rebounds against No. 12 Texas

CLEARWATER, FL (WAFB) - The No. 7 LSU softball team suffered its first loss of the season, falling 8-5 to No. 19 Oregon on Friday in the inaugural St. Pete-Clearwater Elite Invitational, but then in their second game of the day, the Tigers rebounded in a 7-1 win over No. 12 Texas.

LSU is now 8-1 on the season.

Game 1

Shelbi Sunseri hit her sixth home run of the year and it couldn’t have come at a better time. tying up the game 4-4. The Ducks were up 4-2 and Sunseri’s two-run shot to left field tied the game, 4-4.

Oregon scored three more runs in the top of the seventh inning on a home run. LSU managed another run in the bottom of the inning, but it wasn’t enough to pull out the win.

Game 2

LSU jumped out to an early lead off an Amanda Sanchez two-run homer in the first inning. The Tigers then scored two more runs in the third inning to go up 4-0. Shemiah Sanchez hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning for a 7-0 lead.

Shelby Wickersham picked up the win on 5.1 innings of work. Maribeth Gorsuch stepped into the circle for the final two innings to secure the 7-1 win. Wickersham is now 3-0 on the year.
