BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The trial date for two men accused of killing a Baton Rouge couple has been pushed back to June after the state turned over more evidence.

The trial date for murder suspects Ernesto Alonso and Frank Garciais is now scheduled for June 17.

The original trail date, March 18, will be a motions/status hearing to assign any outstanding motions will be argued, including a possible change of venue. That date is also when the court may decide who will be tried first.

The state had turned over additional evidence, which includes license plate readers, phone records and follow-up warrants, according to the public defender’s office.

The defense attorneys for Alonso and Garcia, along with prosecutors, agreed in September to have separate trials for the suspects. They are accused of killing Denis and Suzanne Duplantier in 2015. There was initially to be only one trial for both men.
