LORAN, MS - The Southern University Jaguars put on a defensive show in the second quarter holding Alcorn State University to 22 percent shooting from the floor en route to a convincing 75-54 dismantling Saturday afternoon in the David L. Whitney Complex.
Southern fell behind 9-2 early before the Jags cemented a 12-1 run on a Jaden Towner three-point shot with two minutes left in the first quarter. Southern held Alcorn to one-point during that six-minute run.
The Jaguars did not hold back in the second quarter holding the Lady Braves to nine points. Southern shot 46 percent from the floor (7-of-15, 1-of-2 from beyond the arc) while holding Alcorn to 22 percent (8-of-23, 1-of-8 from beyond the arc).
Southern led in all offensive categories, the bench came to play outscoring the Lady Braves (46-22), second chance points (10-1), off turnovers (28-15), and was solid in the post scoring 50 points in the paint.
