DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Troopers have arrested 30-year-old Emily Easley in connection with a crash that killed a motorcyclist and injured his passenger early Saturday in Livingston Parish.
At Around 1 a.m. Saturday, troopers started investigating the crash that happened on LA Highway 16, south of Pete’s Hwy. Greensburg resident Austin Huber, 25, the motorcyclist, died in the crash, according to Louisiana State Police.
Troopers learned that Huber and his passenger, a 27-year-old woman, were traveling southbound on Vincent Road on a 2003 Honda Shadow 750 motorcycle. The driver of the suspected vehicle, possibly driving a grey SUV, made a left turn from James Street across the southbound lanes and into the path of Huber’s motorcycle, LSP reports.
Huber’s motorcycle then struck the vehicle, ejecting Huber and his passenger.
The Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced Huber dead at the scene, and authorities do not believe he was impaired at the time of the crash. Huber’s passenger was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Easley was booked earlier this evening into the Livingston Parish Detention Center and charged with:
- Vehicular Homicide
- Vehicular Negligent Injuring
- Felony Hit and Run
- Reckless Operation
- Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign
- Failure to Report a Crash
- Expired Vehicle Registration
Troopers also took the vehicle, a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee, to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for forensic analysis.
