Mid-City beer garden expected to open this summer

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A long-awaited beer garden is expected to open by late May, according to Faulk & Meek General Contractors, who are leading the construction project.

The groundbreaking of the Mid City Beer Garden started in summer 2018, and contractors say the building should be complete by this year as long as weather doesn’t delay progress.

The construction site is at the corner of Government Street and Steele Boulevard. Owner Kelli Paxton says she envisions the beer garden as a comfortable, neighborhood hangout spot. It will have an open-air concept and a center courtyard surrounded by green space, designed with air flow in mind to stay cool. The area will also feature TVs so customers can watch sporting events.

The project started in August of 2015 when Paxton, along with co-owners Dave Remmetter and Brian Baiamonte, who own Radio Bar, filed a rezoning request with the city. The request was granted that fall, and the project took off in June of 2016, but then was delayed by the August flooding.
