Suspect arrested, cause of death released after man found dead on side of road in Springfield

Arrest made after man found dead on side of rural road in Livingston Parish

SPRINGFIELD, LA (WAFB) - An arrest has been made and detectives have released more details about a body found on the side of the road in Springfield Sunday.

An autopsy has determined that Jesse Hebert, 36, of French Settlement, died from a single gunshot wound.

Detectives were also able to identify Brandon Ainsworth (2/20/91) as a suspect. Detectives believe the two were acquaintances. Witnesses say the two had a history of not getting along with one another. Police are still working to review the case to determine the motive for the shooting.

“A lot of hours have been - and are still being - poured into this case,” Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard said.

LPSO officials say just after 1 a.m. on Jan. 20, deputies were called out to the 18000 block of Bull Run Road south of Springfield after a driver found what appeared to be a body on the side of the road.

“The deceased male was located along this rural stretch of roadway in Livingston Parish with trauma to the head area. Foul play is suspected. Evidence collected at the scene led detectives to Mitchell Road in French Settlement. There, detectives located a vehicle believed to be connected to this case. That truck had been set on fire. Through investigation, and working with the LSP Crime Lab, detectives were able to identify the victim as Jesse Hebert. Uniform Patrol deputies and detectives are continuing to follow the evidence in this case. At this point in the investigation, we do not believe this to be a random act of violence,” said Sheriff Jason Ard.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call LPSO at 225-686-2241 x1 or call Crime Stoppers at 225-344-7867.
