Woman not wearing seat belt killed in wreck near Gonzales

GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - One person is dead after a single-vehicle crash Thursday morning.

Officials with Louisiana State Police say just before 9:30 a.m. on Thusday, Jan. 17, troopers began investigating the wreck on LA 44 north of Germany Road in Ascension Parish. The wreck claimed the life of Isis Griggs, 20, of Prairieville.

LSP says the initial investigation shows the wreck happened as Griggs was driving a 2006 Honda Accord south on LA 44, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle ran off the road to the left, entered a ditch, and hit a concrete culvert.

Griggs was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the wreck and suffered fatal injuries. She was pronounced dead on the scene by the Ascension Parish Coroner’s Office. At this time, it’s unclear if impairment was a factor. A toxicology sample was taken from Griggs for analysis.

The crash remains under investigation.
