BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - McKinley High has hired veteran coach Richard Oliver to lead the Panther football team moving forward.
Oliver will begin his term as McKinley’s head football coach on Jan. 16, 2019. He was hired Friday after an 11-person search committee made of staff and alumni made the final decision.
Oliver has coached at Istrouma, Scotlandville, and Baker. He played football for Istrouma and Southern University. He has four former players in the NFL.
McKinley finished with a 2-8 record under interim head coach Robert Signater.
He was hired after it was reportedly found that McKinley’s athletic department, in regards to paperwork, was in disarray. LHSAA officials say documents present were not complete and there were many missing documents. The LHSAA issued bans against the school, along with heavy fines. Some of those sanctions were later reduced.
Officials said Signater will remain at the school as an assistant principal and athletic director.
