EAST BATON ROUGE PARISH, LA (WAFB) - East Baton Rouge Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome has announced a new companion website to the city-parish’s Open Data BR portal, called Open Checkbook BR, that allows residents to view expenditure data for various city-parish departments, services, and programs.

“When it comes to the effectiveness of government agencies, data is everything, both in how we use data to improve upon our programs, services, and operations, and in how it is shared with the public to promote transparency and create even greater efficiencies in the process,” said Broome. “With Open Checkbook BR, we are providing unprecedented levels of insight into how we spend taxpayer dollars to deliver the high quality services that citizens expect from their city-parish government, while setting a standard for how other government agencies across Louisiana and beyond can achieve similar levels of transparency.”

Open Checkbook BR is available online here.

The site allows citizens to easily view all levels of city-parish spending. Users can search through specific spending categories down to the individual vendor level and can also summaries of spending. The site is updated nightly with information about new vendor transactions, new checks, wire transfers, and purchasing card payments made to city-parish vendors. The mayor’s office says the data comes from the city-parish’s new enterprise resource planning system, which recently replaced a much older system.

The site also provides data about police, fire, traffic, and animal control incidents, as well as salary information for government employees.
