Mobile home fire leaves 2 children dead; 3 adults injured
A mobile home fire in Belle Chasse resulted in the deaths of two children on Oct. 21, 2018.

BELLE CHASSE, LA (WAFB) - Two children are dead and three other people suffered injuries in a mobile home fire Sunday night, according to authorities.

The Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal reported it happened on LA 23 in Belle Chasse just before 10 p.m.

The Plaquemines Parish Coroner’s Office identified as Jordan Beckham, 7, and Madison Branton, 9, inside the home. They were brother and sister.

Investigators believe the children were separated from the adults as they tried to escape the home and the children were trapped in a bedroom.

Two pets also died in the fire.

Authorities say the fire started in an addition to the mobile home that was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire but believe the cause is electrical in nature.

They added there did not appear to be evidence of working smoke alarms.

The names of the victims have not been released.

This fire marks the fourth fatal fire in Louisiana in the last week, according to the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal.

The Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal is assisting in the investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
